La marca de destinació turística esportiva de qualitat està inclosa dins el pla director de turisme de Catalunya que pretén definir un model que serveixi per al desenvolupament turístic de determinades zones lligades a la pràctica d’activitats esportives.
Our town has received this award from the Generalitat de Catalunya in 2003.
The award positions Castelló d’Empúries and Empuriabrava as a tourism destination that meets the requirements of sportspersons looking for a suitable place to train and to improve their physical and technical performance.
The award Sports Tourism Destination is a prize that Catalunya Tourism gives to all the municipalities that offer a big and high-quality resources to receive tourism with sports concerns.
The demand to have different activities than sun and beach is growing, and Tourism of Catalunya opt to promote sports as and economic and dynamic concept in our region, and Castelló d’Empúries and Empuriabrava act like experimental municipalities.
This recognition is not due to the desire to promote a brand. It recognizes sport tradition, touristic infrastructure, sport and complementary facilities and above all, the wish of municipality and people involved in local development that play sports as a new tool for the promotion, growth and optimization of the town resources.
This prize has been awarded for the Skydiving and Soccer, two sports very important in our town that are implanted many years ago that shows that they have gone far from a sport practice and have become a dynamic factor and resources for the future in the tourist projection of municipalities.
But our municipality offers more than these sport traditions and naturals resources: Castelló d’Empúries-Empuriabrava are leaders in nautical sporting activities -such as cruise sailing, light sailing, high altitude fishing and jet ski- due to the magnificent installations that we have in the marina of Empuriabrava and to the natural resources that our beaches offer.
